Meet our new Band Director!

Ms. Jessica Laws



Jessica Laws grew up in Palacios, TX, a small town in South Texas. Always interested in music, Ms. Laws started singing in children’s choirs when she was young, continuing to sing well into high school. In 7th grade, Ms. Laws started playing clarinet in the school band. In high school, she started playing the bassoon because of the instruments unique sound and the challenge of playing the bassoon. Ms. Laws won many awards for her musical abilities, including All Region in choir, All Region on clarinet and All State on bassoon, as well as first division Solo & Ensemble ratings in all three areas.

Upon graduating high school, Ms. Laws attended the University of North Texas in order to pursue a Bachelor of Music Education degree. While at UNT, she played with many ensembles, and even helped record music for the composer David Gillingham. She student taught in the Birdville ISD, under the guidance of Cindy Lansford and Bill Watson. Ms. Laws also taught private bassoon lessons at several school districts all over the Dallas/Ft. Worth area

Now, Ms. Laws is the new Assistant Band Director at Donna Shepard Intermediate and looks forward to an exciting year teaching 5th grade music, and 6th grade woodwinds. Ms. Laws hopes to accomplish a foundation of love for all types of music, and a instill life skills along with a life long appreciation for music in students.
