Does it really matter what our kids believe?

Our attitudes and actions spring from our value system and our values are derived from our core beliefs. So if you're concerned that your young people might make wrong choices that will bring them pain, instill right values within them based on solid biblical beliefs. Because unless they have a foundation built on biblical beliefs, you can expect their lives will reflect the pain and consequences of wrong choices.

These are what I consider pertinent links. Take your time investigating these. They are huge.

And what about Harry Potter? Harmless Fantasy? Or something else?

Most of the links on the left are subtopics from the websites listed below, and will lead you to further investigation of suggested material.

QUOTES:
  • ...no theme may be played that hath not its uttermost source in me, nor can any alter the music in my despite. For he that attempteth this shall prove mine instrument in the devising of things more wonderful, which he himself hath not imagined.
                        J.R.R. Tolkien in "The Silmarillion."

  • "Here, then, is a marked difference between Christianity and almost all other philosophies. Most other philosophies do not have a concept of a present abnormality. Therefore, they hold that everything now is normal; things are as they always have been.

By contrast, Christians do not see things as if they have always been this way. This is of immense importance in understanding evil in the world. It is possible for Christians to speak of things as absolutely wrong, for they are not original in human society. They are derived from the Fall; they are in that sense "abnormal." It also means we may stand against what is wrong without standing against God, for He did not make the world as it is now."
Francis Schaeffer in "Whatever Happened to the Human Race."

  • The world is an abnormal world. Because of the Fall, it is not what God meant it to be. There are many things in this world which grieve, but we must face them down. We never have the luxury of acting in a merely utopian way. Utopian schemes in this fallen world have always brought tragedy. The Bible is never utopian. Authentically biblical morality, and not a non-Christian and romantic counterfeit, demands that people have our prayers — but not only our prayers.

From my own study of Scripture I would say that to refuse to do what I can for those who are under the power of oppressors is nothing less than the failure of Christian love. . . .

This is why I am not a pacifist. Pacifism in this poor fallen world in which we live — this lost world — means that we desert the people who need the greatest help.
                        Francis Schaeffer

  • The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles but to irrigate deserts. The right defence against false sentiments is to inculcate just sentiments. By starving the sensibility of our pupils we only make them easier prey to the propagandist when he comes. For famished nature will be avenged and a hard heart is no infallible protection against a soft head.
C.S.Lewis in "The Abolition of Man "

  1. Into the Wardrobe: a C.S. Lewis Website

Most know Lewis only from writings such as the Narnia series, space trilogy or popular Christian works. But these are "merely " the most visible manifestations of his theology and philosophy. I find it fascinating that Lewis rejected what he saw as the restless quest of the modern world to be original. Current advertising trends have preyed upon mankind's flawed perception of his desire and ability to be "original." Man has had the privilege of discovery, re-organization, recombination and contextual transposition, but is eternally constrained by the First Law of Thermodynamics. Man can "create," but only in the context of re-organization of "ready-made" materials into a new communicative device or presentation. And that's "enough". Refer to "Francis Schaeffer and the Great Evangelical Disaster," #5 below.

  2. Reasons To Believe

Reasons To Believe was founded in 1986 to

    • remove the doubts of skeptics
    • strengthen the faith of believers
    • demonstrate that science and the Bible are complementary.

Many in the secular society and the Christian community have operated under the untruth that science and faith are at odds. The common response: we must either choose between them or keep them apart. The mission of Reasons To Believe is to show that science and faith are, and always will be, allies, not enemies. Our mission is to bring that life-changing truth to as many people as possible, both believers and unbelievers.

  3. Evidence for God From Science

Scientifc evidences for God's existence, His care and love for mankind, and His provision for joyful living both now and into eternity through His Son, Jesus Christ.

  5. Unravelling Wittgenstein's Net: A Christian Thinktank

Great answers to many of the difficult questions of Christianity. Easy to navigate, easy to search topics.

  6. The Shelter: A Francis A. Schaeffer Site

    Selected Quote:

...the hippies of the 1960s did understand something. They were right in fighting the plastic culture, and the church should have been fighting it too... More than this, they were right in the fact that the plastic culture - modern man, the mechanistic worldview in university textbooks and in practice, the total threat of the machine, the establishment technology, the bourgeois upper middle class - is poor in its sensitivity to nature... As a utopian group, the counterculture understands something very real, both as to the culture as a culture, but also as to the poverty of modern man's concept of nature and the way the machine is eating up nature on every side.
...Francis Schaeffer, Pollution And The Death of Man

  7. antithesis: a voice from the emerging Christian counterculture

This site is striking in content and design. Sign-up for the newsletter.

"The Christian faith is rooted in history.
    If Jesus did not live,
or if He did not rise from the dead,
    Christianity cannot continue.
It cannot live on as a mere idea, because
    Christianity is about objective truth
    and not merely religious experiences."
    ...Francis Schaeffer

  8. Leadership University

  9. Papers by Alvin Plantinga

Alvin Plantinga has been called "the most important philosopher of religion now writing." Widely acclaimed for his work on the metaphysics of modality, the ontological argument, the problem of evil, and the epistemology of religious belief, he is the author or editor of seven books, including God and Other Minds, The Nature of Necessity, and Faith and Rationality. Several of his articles, which have appeared in journals such as Theoria, American Philosophical Quarterly, Philosophical Studies, Journal of Philosophy, and so forth, have been hailed as masterpieces of the metaphysician's craft.

  10. WallBuilders - American Historical Events, Founding Father's, Documents, Books, Videos

WallBuilders is an organization dedicated to the restoration of the moral and religious foundation on which America was built—a foundation which, in recent years, has been seriously attacked and undermined. In accord with what was so accurately stated by George Washington, we believe that “the propitious [favorable] smiles of heaven can never be expected on a nation which disregards the eternal rules of order and right which heaven itself has ordained.”

  11. Conservative Truth.org: The Answer to the Liberal News Media

Conservative Truth is published weekly. Each issue is read by approximately 50,000 people worldwide. If you're tired of the same old liberal slant that the major media give to the news, you'll find Conservative Truth a breath of fresh air. Did you know that 92% of the producers, anchors, editors and reporters that decide what news you are allowed to see are registered to vote either as Democrats or Socialists? 100% of the Editorial Staff of Conservative Truth are Conservative Republicans or Libertarians.

Conservative Truth reports on news that the major media censor. We offer original commentary on the major moral, social and political issues of the day from a Biblical, moral conservative viewpoint. We're not ashamed to say that America is the greatest country on this globe, but neither are we afraid to point out areas where our politicians are leading us astray.

  12. Watchman Fellowship: A Christian Response To Cults and New Religious Movements

Watchman Fellowship is an independent Christian research and apologetics ministry focusing on new religious movements, cults, the occult and the New Age. We serve the Christian and secular community as a resource for cult education, counselling, and non-coercive intervention. We accomplish these tasks through our church presentations, our magazine, The Watchman Expositor, personal counseling, this website, and other activities.
